What Causes Stress Headaches?
Most stress headache patients try to explain their condition with similar words: “I have a stressful job,” “My life is full of stress,” “I have headaches only because of stress,” etc. But they do not know that these expressions alone are enough for being stressed.
On the other hand, physicians also support these comments. If that is the case, advices like “Do not lose sleep over anything,” or “Take it easy,” are also added to the picture.
It is actually true that headaches and migraine attacks tend to occur more often in stressful times but is stress the real cause? Absolutely no! Stress only sharpens the pain in “stress headache” patients but it does not cause it.
The simplest proof to that is people not having headaches although they are stressed; or former patients not having headaches after the treatment, even though the stress is still there.
Since stress only increases the potential of an already existing problem to cause pain, main focus should be fixing this cause. Because it is not possible to keep stress away all the time.
Most common cause of “stress headache” is clenching the teeth but throat infections, tooth decays, wisdom teeth and even operations like C-section may also cause this condition. Problematic areas like those in the body are called interference fields. And in sensitive people, these cause severe spasms in the head and neck areas, which will ultimately cause stress headaches.
