What is Orgasmic Headache?
Although it is rare, there are patients who complain about a headache occurring only with sexual activity. These patients mostly suffer from orgasmic headaches. Pain comes either close to or during orgasm and goes away in a couple of hours. It may be so frequent that the patient avoids having sexual activity.
There is also a group of patients who experience headaches during sexual activity, in addition to already having migraine. Also on the contrary, there are patients who claim that if they have sex after realizing the pain is coming, it goes away.
Is Orgasmic Headache Dangerous?
Patients suffering from orgasmic headache complain more about a sudden pain, coming from their nape. Orgasmic headache is severe and explosive.
It is important being careful about a point when encountering with this pain during sexual activity for the first time: There may be some bubbles in brain arteries, where vein structure is broken, called aneurisms. When the pressure inside the brain is increased, these damaged veins rupture and bleed. This is a life threatening condition, causing a pain like a bomb just went off in the brain. In lucky cases, the bleeding may temporarily stop but this is a deception. It bleeds again after a short while and the patient may die. This area should be fixed with an emergent attention. This possibility called the subarachnoid bleeding (SAB) should definitely come to mind with severe headaches caused by tiring activities.
