Cluster Headache Treatment
Cluster Headache can be treated by “Gokmen Approach.” As stated in Gokmen Approach, cluster headache is caused by problems in dental-jaw complex. For cluster headache treatment, factors triggering the pain in dental-jaw complex should be detected and corrected.
Removing interference fields in dental-jaw complex can sometimes be easy and sometimes take long but the stages of the treatment do not change. Firstly, the area causing the pain is detected. In order to detect this area, all teeth are divided into four quadrants –like dividing the face of a clock- and the specialist works on the chosen quadrant. On rare occasions, patient can have bilateral cluster headache and his quadrants can change during the treatment. After the quadrant is determined, there are 7 or 8 teeth including wisdom teeth to be treated.
The treatment of these teeth involves three stages.
- Cleansing the focus of dental infection
- Required tooth extraction
- Equal balance and load distribution
Cluster headache treatment is performed by a team. The doctor administering the treatment (neurologist, pain specialist, family physician) should be well informed about the interference field approach and dental-jaw complex. The team should consist of dentist specialists (Endodontist, Restorative therapist, Periodontologist, Gnathology and Prosthetic Specialists, Maxillofacial Surgeons). Stages of the treatment should be followed and problems in dental-jaw complex should be solved until the pain is kept under control. Provided that all of these stages of treatment are applied appropriately, cluster headaches can be treated by Gokmen Approach.
